Contract Producer/Director –Mississippi Public Broadcasting
Mississippi Public Broadcasting is seeking a creative and enterprising person to join our News team as a contract Producer/Director. The Producer/Director will be responsible for shaping and creating the content for @ISSUE, our flagship news/public affairs televisionprogram that airs during the Mississippi legislative session. Successful candidates will have backgrounds in editorial research and broadcast news, TV production, including producing, editing, graphic design and/or other aspects of production.
The contract Producer/Director is responsible for developing editorial content for the @ISSUEprogram, working collaboratively with News management, the program host and analysts to develop each week’s episodes. The position will produce each program segment, research topic ideas, identify and book/interview guests; edit program content for on-air broadcast and online/digital use.
The successful candidate will contract with MPB for the 5 months of the 2024 legislative session, starting in January 2024. The Producer/Director will be paid per program up to 16 thirty-minute episodes.
The contract will pay up to $1,000.00 per program, depending on experience.
Responsibilities
Identify and develop program segments that fit the program’s news/public affairs mission.
Spend time at the legislature and conduct interviews with lawmakers.
Edit segments and produce the program on deadline for broadcast and podcast distribution.
Coordinate, collaborate and help create online content from program elements for online and social media channels.
Contribute to MPB’s local news with audio and online news stories.
Demonstrated understanding of news judgment and journalism ethics.
Proficiencies
Knowledgeable and proficient with:
Experience researching and covering events/stories for television broadcast.
Keen appreciation for journalistic standards.
Significant understanding of broadcast video production and field producing.
Non-linear editing experience.
