Position Summary Information
Responsibilities
The Radio Operations Specialist is a full-time, 12-month, 100% grant-funded position housed within the Office of Communications and Marketing that oversees the daily operations of the Delta State University radio stations by scheduling programming, producing live and pre-recorded content, managing schedules and training for student volunteers and interns, recording and scheduling sponsor messages. The Radio Operations Specialist reports to the Campus Media Coordinator, works closely with Communications & Marketing team members and other campus constituencies to ensure that the highest performance standards are maintained.
Duties Include:
Oversees the daily operations of WDSW-LP 88.1/WDSW-FM station and DSU Radio Online;
Coordinates weekly schedules and expands database of programming;
Monitors radio station equipment and computers, while maintaining current inventory records and maintenance logs;
Ensures compliance with FCC protocols;
Records and schedules weekday news updates and announcements;
Trains and supervises radio station student personnel;
Manages volunteer database and schedules for student volunteers and interns;
Engages in outreach and collaboration with industry leaders to ensure WDSW-FM and DSU Radio Online graduates employment-ready alumni;
Records sponsor messages and schedules in accordance with rate card;
Reports programming plans and financial requests to Campus Media Coordinator;
Follows guidelines with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) as they pertain to the students’ rights to privacy and accuracy and retention of academic records; and
Other duties as assigned as related to radio operations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting, Management, Communications or related field or commensurate industry experience.
Experience in radio management.
Familiarity with Music Maker and PlayOut1 or comparable software preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Demonstrated record of:
Leadership, interpersonal and oral/written communication skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a changing, evolving department.
Integrity and commitment to developing and maintaining the highest standards and working with a diverse population.
Plan and budget time wisely, be detail-oriented and motivated to take initiative.
Must be a United States citizen or have legal authorization to work in the United States.
SalaryCommensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.Minimum Qualifications
